Stargazing

Join the Amateur Astronomers Association (AAA) at historic Floyd Bennett Field for free stargazing sessions — typically one Friday of each month, unless otherwise indicated. All events start 30 minutes after sunset. Events are canceled in the event of rain or if the sky is overcast. Click below to learn more.

Ryan Visitor Center

The historic Ryan Visitor Center, the former air traffic control tower at Floyd Bennett Field, is open Saturday and Sunday from 9 am - 12 pm.

Hangar B Open House

Starting in April 2025, join a Park Ranger for an open house visit to Hangar B and the aircraft inside, which are part of Floyd Bennett Field’s aviation history! Hangar B is open every Sunday from 1 pm - 3 pm. Hangar B is home of Floyd Bennett Field's Historic Aircraft Restoration Project (HARP). Hangar B contains dozens of restored and model aircraft, including a full-scale model of Wiley Post's Lockheed Vega, "The Winnie Mae.”

Kayaking

When warm weather returns, explore Floyd Bennett Field first-hand through free, fun, and educational paddling programs!

There are multiple different types of paddles for different levels of experience. The shortest paddles are listed as “Tryouts,” “Beginner” and “Learn to paddle” programs. For those with a little bit more experience, there are slightly longer trips simply called “Paddles.” “Excursions” are the longest trips intended for those who have paddled the listed distance before.
